Pool, Spa & Barrier Building Permits in Melbourne

Swimming pool and spa building permits

Planning a new pool or spa in Melbourne? Start by sending us your property address, proposed pool location and available drawings. We assess the permit application and identify outstanding information. Once appointed as the relevant building surveyor, Joseph can issue the building permit when satisfied that the applicable requirements are met.

Building permits for pool fences and safety barriers

A new barrier, replacement fence or changed barrier layout may need a building permit. Tell us whether the proposal includes glass fencing, gates, boundary fencing, a deck or changes around an existing pool. Our assessment considers the actual site and proposed work, including nearby structures and access points. Confirm the approval requirements before installation.

A registered building surveyor for your pool project

Building permit services are provided through Victorian Building Surveyors Pty Ltd, ABN 22 614 879 882, led by Joseph Yousefi, Building Surveyor Unlimited — BS-U 61233. Melbourne Pool Safety Inspection operates under the same company. Your enquiry is directed to the building surveying team for a scoped proposal.

Documents to prepare for a permit quote

Send the site address, a short description of the work and your latest plans. Depending on the proposal, we may require title information, a site plan, engineering, pool or spa specifications, barrier and gate details, filtration information and relevant planning approvals. Include any council correspondence or existing permits so we can identify the correct pathway.

Mandatory inspections and completion certificates

Our pool permit package includes four mandatory inspections. The permit and fee proposal identify the inspection stages and arrangements for your particular project. Book inspections before relevant work is covered. The Certificate of Final Inspection and Form 23 are issued only once the relevant requirements and supporting documentation are satisfied.

Pool building permit or Form 23 inspection?

A building permit relates to proposed building work. Form 23 confirms that a pool or spa barrier complies with its applicable standard following inspection. A Form 23 inspection does not replace a building permit required for construction or barrier alterations. If you only need a periodic barrier inspection for your council, tell us when you contact the team.
